The monograph published by the Institute of Slavic Studies presents the results of a long-term study of the Russian-Polish-Belarusian borderland. The study uses a significant amount of material, both contemporary field and archival, recorded in the 19th century. The range of topics discussed in the book includes linguistic and ethnocultural stereotypes, interaction of oral and written traditions, genesis of the rituals essential for the region, and the ways of implementing and transforming collective memory.
